Have you ever been out in a natural, organic setting and had what you would consider a spiritual experience?
This shouldn’t surprise us. God created this world as our home. Water, sunshine, air, plants, every molecule of our bodies, made to be nurtured by this earth. The awesomeness of knowing that such diversity in creation can be sustained on one planet, all made with the same basic building blocks, should make us feel closer to our Creator, closer to God.
Several years ago our family moved to a different state. Although excited about the fresh opportunities, we were sad to be away from comfortable surroundings and friends. Our new home had a nice deck overlooking a beautiful, wooded yard. One bright, cool morning, with coffee in hand, the scene was lovely, but it didn’t seem complete without the familiar, comforting sounds of the cooing mourning doves we had back home. We offered a prayer of thanks that included a comment about the doves. The next day a dove sitting on the driveway greeted us.
Whenever you are feeling sad or empty inside, get organic, get outside. Allow God to minister to you in the stillness of His creation.
Psalm 150:6, The Message: “Let every living, breathing creature praise God! Hallelujah!”
Psalm 46:10, English Standard Version: “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”
