Give Peace a Chance

Give Peace a Chance

After my home rearranging project, I took a couple of days to enjoy the fruits of my labor. My “new” space was relaxing and restorative, worth all the hard work. How often do I give peace a chance?

Agendas used to run my life. It wasn’t unusual to tick through my to-do list without taking a breath. Completing a task, pushing on to the next, thinking a day would arrive when the list was complete. Spoiler Alert: the list is never complete!

give peace a chance

Our busy world of doing more, becoming famous, or having the most perfect stuff, doesn’t allow us much peace. We are pushing, fighting, defending, judging, correcting, having to be right, or getting in the last word.

How can we give peace a chance? Can we leave that snarky comment in our heads, or stop correcting people? Is it really a big deal to let it go? In the light of eternity, is it really important?

Let’s examine our motivation for constant striving. Are we trying to earn love, respect, or accolades? God loves you this very moment for who you are, not for what you accomplish or what position you hold. Treasure moments of peace. Celebrate your victories and blessings. Bring balance by enjoying the fruits of your labor. Treat yourself. Schedule a restorative day for yourself weekly. Relax and give peace a chance.

When hard pressed, I cried to the LORD; he brought me into a spacious place.

Psalm 118:5 NIV

Guard your tongue from profanity, and no more lying through your teeth. Turn your back on sin; do something good. Embrace peace—don’t let it get away!

Psalm 34:13-14 MSG

Evil scheming distorts the schemer; peace-planning brings joy to the planner.

Proverbs 12:20 MSG
