A Creative life at home means making a space filled with peace, and nurtures those who live there. Purposefully chosen objects provide comfort and reflect memories. Your home is all about you, so here are a few ideas for expressing your creative nature at home.
“If you want a golden rule that will fit everything, this is it: Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.” – William Morris
Activity: Tackle one room or closet at a time. Sort stuff into three stacks or boxes. 1. love it, have to keep it! 2. Ready to move on, donate it. 3. Honestly, this is junk, trash it!
According to experts, rearranging your furniture can give a fresh perspective and help you feel more relaxed and secure. It works! After my living room makeover, it amazed me how it lifted my mood and how much more I enjoyed being in the space. Painting is a cost effective way to add color or neutralize tired, old colors.
Activity: Completely empty and clean the room. Define its purpose and the feeling you want it to convey (e.g., cozy, playful, energizing, relaxing.) As you decide what to use, repurpose pieces from other rooms for a fresh look.
As we practice self-care, we all need our own little place of sanctuary. Carve out a quiet space and make it your own. Perhaps your decluttering and reorganizing activity created an empty closet. Take off the doors, add some fun wallpaper and you can have a hobby or yoga space. Or add a comfy chair and lamp for reading and prayer. Redecorate the bathroom with candles and make a “Do Not Disturb” sign to hang on the door for those lingering soaks.
Activity: Find a space, even if it’s just a corner, and make it your own.
Some of the most creative people I know express themselves through cooking and baking. They find joy in combining simple ingredients into beautiful and delicious meals and treats. Even Jesus cooked for His disciples (John 21:9-14). Something amazing happens when we are sharing food and drink with family and friends. Also, sharing nourishment with strangers is a blessing to their body and spirit.
Activity: Try new ingredients or recipes to surprise family and friends. Take a meal to someone in need. Deliver treats to the local police or fire station. Donate to your local food bank.
Above all, nothing compares to filling our homes with the wisdom and presence of God! While busy with your projects, offer a prayer of peace for all who will enter your home, and thanks to God for His loving care. Please share your creative home projects in the comments below.
Grace, mercy, and peace, which come from God the Father and from Jesus Christ—the Son of the Father—will continue to be with us who live in truth and love.2 John 1:3 NLT
[Jesus said] There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going.John 14:2-4 NLT
