Prayer Squares

Prayer Squares are Gifts for Visitors and Members

Prayer Squares are about 5 inches square and given to encourage during the stressful circumstances of life, a handcrafted gift to show care. I have visited churches that offer these in a basket on the visitors table. They also make a wonderful gift for Nursing Home residents. The fleece version is my creation. The fleece squares are good for children, as they have no small charms that could detach, and their softness is comforting for small hands to caress.

Prayer Square PDFs

Although prayer squares are easy to make, the instructions are lengthy. Visit the Printables section of haveagather.com to receive a PDF of the instructions for the quilted and fleece versions of the squares. There are also knitted or crocheted versions available on my haveagather.com “Church Event Ideas” Pinterest board. Use the link below to see these and other clever church gift crafts.

The message cards were created on card stock. I was able to use the copy machine at church, but there are a number of online printers that could create the cards for you.

Prayer Square Messages:

Lay this softly upon your palm, feel God’s Grace, His Love, His Calm. Lift your cares and joys in prayer; Drawing peace from this little square. May the Lord Bless you.

A prayer square is a little hug from God, to carry you through your day. May the presence of someone praying for you bring comforting hope, peace and safe harbor found in each prayerful stitch created for you.

The Divine Weaver — My life is but a weaving between the Lord and me; I cannot choose the colors, He worth steadily. Oftimes He weaves sorrow and I, in foolish pride, forget He sees the upper, and I the under side. Not till the loom is silent and the shuttles cease to fly, shall God unroll the canvas and explain the reason why. The dark threads are as needful in the Weaver’s skillful hand, as the threads of gold and silver in the pattern He has planned. Author Unknown (1892)

I’m a little prayer quilt, to hold in your hand. To help when trouble arises, those things you do not plan. Hold me tight in your fist, if it helps calm your fears, and don’t be afraid to use me, to wipe away your tears.

(Note: This is the card I inserted to the fleece squares for children.) Sing along: Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so. Little ones to Him belong, they are weak but He is strong. And remember: Psalms 145:9 says, “The Lord is good to all.”

After each of the first four sayings, I added the following scripture in a second paragraph: “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of Compassion and the God of all comfort.” 2 Corinthians 1:3

The back sides of all the cards read as follows: (image from thenounproject.com.)

Stitched in prayer and given in love by: ________________(this space for the maker to sign their first name).

Additional information would list the church name, address, phone number, and website.

I pray these squares allow you to communicate the love and care of God to those in need of His comfort.
